Tim, in response to your second set of comments, l can but ask about the timetable for applying for derogation tomorrow morning with our experts at the Environment Committee. My understanding that for PM10 it's already gone in but not for NOx. Murad

Apols Tim for not getting back to you earlier. I will endeavour to ask about the possibility of further research in the government's air quality modelling at tomorrow's Environment Committee meeting. Murad

PS Do you know what the timescale is for Defra to consult on its plans to include in its application for derogation of the air quality limits ?

As I understand it, which isn't very well(!), the Commission needs 9 months to scrutinise the plans. So to get derogation before 1st Jan 2010 would need the completed application filed by 31st March ? And Defra has to consult on the plans before that ?

I was disappointed that it did not appear that any further work was revealed with the Heathrow announcement to demonstrate confidence in the government air quality modelling following the damning criticisms by the Environment Agency and the Air Quality Consultants commisioned to critique the work for the 2M group. (The DfT did reveal a very shallow health impact study that indicated that the health disbenefits would be negligible!).

I wonder whether the Environmet C'tee may be looking at this at its meeting on 4th February when I see that Air Quality is on the agend ?
